Principal’s Message
Greenwood Family,
Magic truly happens at Greenwood Elementary School. We have a “mosh pit culture” rooted in joy, connection, and community—where hugs, cheers, chants, and laughter fill the halls. Students, teachers, and families lean into each other with eyes sparkling and hands held high. Love, rigor, high expectations, and purpose pulse through every classroom. Our culture is a balance of data and heart, relationships and innovation. Voices are heard, respect is earned, and courage fuels bold ideas. At Greenwood, we are givers, dreamers, leaders, uplifters, and warriors, guided by five core values that build a sense of belonging for everyone who walks through our doors.
While we’re proud to be recognized as one of Virginia’s top-performing schools—receiving the 2020 Board of Education Highest Achievement Award—our impact extends beyond test scores. We strive to create moments and memories that touch hearts and shape lives.
This year, we proudly introduce our new school theme: "One Team, One Dream." It reflects our deep commitment to unity and collaboration. At Greenwood, we are more than a school—we’re a family. Every student and staff member is seen, heard, valued, and empowered. Each year, we release a school song to celebrate our community, and we’re excited to share this year’s anthem in August 2025.
Our teachers are the heart of our success, creating learner-centered classrooms where students' uniqueness is celebrated. Rooted in strong relationships and social-emotional learning, we nurture environments that prioritize individual growth. Success isn’t one-size-fits-all—it’s personal, based on each student’s goals and dreams. Our approach evolves to meet learners' needs, integrating student voice, real-life application, and meaningful content. Our educators inspire curiosity, encourage creative risk-taking, and cultivate the resilience needed to face life’s challenges with confidence.
Greenwood is a home where love and innovation intersect. Our staff believes deeply in every child’s potential to shine and succeed—not just academically, but as compassionate, courageous individuals. We develop essential life skills such as time management, goal setting, self-regulation, and soft skills, helping students become independent, purpose-driven learners. Here, every child is known, loved, and believed in.
As your principal, I take this responsibility personally. Greenwood lives in my heart. Our diversity—of cultures, backgrounds, and experiences—is our strength. Hiring and empowering a diverse, dynamic staff is an intentional step toward ensuring every student feels represented and included. I believe a child’s zip code or background should never define their future. It’s our duty to uncover each student’s talents and give them platforms—clubs, performances, competitions, and more—to let those gifts shine.
My leadership is rooted in courage, vision, and authenticity. I believe in experiential learning, taking risks, and embracing failure as part of growth. I lead with transparency and heart. I don’t make promises I can’t keep, and I don’t make excuses for unmet goals. Instead, I lead with contagious enthusiasm, creativity, and a steadfast commitment to instructional excellence. I believe in the power of connection—through competition, collaboration, communication, and consistency—and I’m always accessible to our students, families, and staff.
My top priorities remain: school safety, student achievement, staff and student wellness, and continued instructional growth that fosters deep, meaningful learning. Our Gators will once again be inspired to take ownership of their learning, think critically, serve their communities, and pursue their passions with confidence. We will continue to prioritize student voice, inquiry, creativity, and empathy—ensuring that every child feels safe, supported, and empowered.
Our PTA is another source of Greenwood magic. Nationally and locally recognized for excellence, our PTA has received Virginia’s PTA of Excellence (2018–2022), Henrico County Public Schools' Unit of the Year (2021, 2025), Volunteer of the Year (2021, 2023), and Innovative Program of the Year (2021, 2023). The PTA’s impact is unmatched—and there are so many ways to get involved. No task is too small. Volunteering not only supports our school—it builds lifelong connections. This year, we'll be looking for volunteers to support morning arrival, lunch duty, and to help financially with our one annual school/PTA fundraiser. Our goal is to reach 300 PTA members by October 1, 2025. We are proud to be known as a school that opens its doors to our community, and we know that the strength of our PTA relies on your involvement, voice, and support. Now more than ever, we must turn toward one another to create the experiences our children deserve.
Please follow our website and social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter) to stay up-to-date with school news, events, and celebrations. Liking, sharing, and leaving positive comments on our posts helps strengthen our school’s visibility and directly influences community partners who support our clubs, programs, and teacher supplies. Our teachers will send detailed weekly communication every Thursday, packed with information about what students have learned and what’s coming next. In addition, I’ll send a Sunday message outlining events and updates for the upcoming two weeks. I will also host monthly virtual meetings at 9 AM to answer questions, listen to feedback, and strengthen the home-school partnership that is essential to our students' success. My door—and inbox—are always open. I welcome your thoughts, questions, and ideas. Above all, I promise to lead with love, equity, and purpose. No matter what the future brings, we will continue to provide an inclusive and empowering learning experience for all of our Gators.
Greenwood is more than a school—it’s home. I’m honored and grateful to serve this incredible community.
